The Ausangate Trek is a 4 day, 70km hike designed for a smoother and quieter hike compared with others in the Peruvian Andes. This extraordinary hike offers stunning views including that of the iconic snowy mountains of the Vilcanota Range, the Rainbow Mountains and the uncrowded Ausangate trail.
During the Ausangate Trek, you’ll hike through an exquisite setting of gleaming glacial lakes, coloured hills, herds of llamas and alpacas, waterfalls, and the dazzling peaks and glaciers of Ausangate (20,956ft). At the end of each exhilarating day of the Ausangate Trek, you’ll be welcomed at our unique camp sites which are located in scenic settings, each one featuring private, roomy tents, dining tent, toilet tent and, delightful cuisine! Your ultimate reward is an exploration of ethereal Rainbow Mountains, an impressive natural formation of colored hills.
- DAY 1: CUSCO – TINKI – PUMACCOCHA
4:00 am pick up from hotel. Head towards the village of Tinki where we will have breakfast. The trip is three hours in our mobility. After breakfast we will start the four hour hike to Upis this day will be interesting and long because we will see in the tour local people with their typical costumes, their daily life and beautiful landscapes. In Upis it is recommended to go to the hot springs to relax the muscles and enjoy the place before lunch with a beautiful panoramic view of the mountain Ausangate 6.372m. And others of the Vilcanota mountain range After lunch and rest we continue the route between valleys, mountains and lagoons observing typical landscapes of the Andes arriving finally to Pumacocha (3950m) place where we will spend the first night after a pleasant dinner.
- DAY 2: PUMACCOCHA – HUCHUY PHINAYA
After breakfast 6:00 am. (Approximately) we will start the four hours hike to the Ausangate Lagoon where lunch will be. This day will be beautiful, long and difficult of panoramic views of Andean lagoon, landscapes, alpaca, llamas. Because this day we will cross two pass, the first of 4.780m is the Ausangate pass, and the second of 5.121m the pass of Palomani this will be after lunch the highest point of our trip. After this encounter with the spirits and tranquility of the mountains and The Pachamama we descend to the small town of Huchuy Phinayaplace where we will spend the second night after a nice dinner.
- DAY 3: HUCHUY PHINAYA – BLUE LAKE
After breakfast 6:00 am. (Approximately) we will start the six-hour hike to the Laguna de Tika Cocha. This will be another beautiful day of panoramic views of mountains, lagoons and a little luck we can see wild animals such as: vicuñas, vizcachas and different birds of the Andes. In addition we will cross the open of Jampaccasa of 5,084m that is in the middle of beautiful and mysterious mountains will be the last pass of our trip. After our magical encounter with the spirits of the mountains and the Pachamama we will descend to the lagoon Tikacocha for lunch and after resting we will continue until the lagoon of Azul Cocha place where we will spend the third night after a pleasant dinner.
- DAY 4: BLUE LAKE – TINKI – CUSCO
After breakfast 6:30 am. (Approximately) we will start the four hours walk to the village of Tinki. This will be an easy, beautiful and interesting day because we will see in the tour more presence of small people and people with their typical costumes, customs so to know and learn more of the culture of this wonderful region to finally reach the village of Tinki where after lunch we will return to the city of Cusco.
