This full-day tour with our local tour guide takes you through a remote Andean community of Uchullucllu. People here are untouched by modernity and maintain their age-old traditions and customs. They still converse in Quechua.

You will be getting a detailed insight into their way of life.

It takes about two hours to reach the summit of the Red Mountains of Love. The trail is dotted with many interesting sights including the picturesque stone forest. You will be having a distant view of many snow-capped peaks that form the Vilcanota Mountain Range.

You will be hiking through highland Andean farms where you can spot Llamas and Alpacas grazing in their natural habitat.

Please note that Cusco to Rainbow Mountain Tour is a high-altitude experience. The highest point of this Rainbow Mountain of Love is 4800 meters above sea level (15748ft). It is highly recommended that you spend at least two days in Cusco before the trek to acclimatize and avoid altitude sickness.

Rainbow Mountain Cusco Peru – Cusco to Rainbow Mountain

We’ll start our adventure by picking you up bright and early at 3:30 AM from your hotel in Cusco. As we start our journey, brace yourself for a captivating 2-hour and 30-minute drive through the stunning South Valley of Cusco. Along the way, you’ll be treated to awe-inspiring sights of rivers winding their way through the traditional farms of the highlands and quaint villages that exude charm at every turn.

Upon reaching the Andean town of Pitumarca, we’ll make a pit stop for a delicious breakfast to fuel up for the day ahead. Then, it’s back on the road for another hour until we arrive at the trailhead in Kallanka, situated at an impressive altitude of 4400 meters (14435 feet).

Here, our friendly local expert will delight you with intriguing stories and fascinating insights into the vibrant traditions of the locals. Following a brief introduction to Andean mythology and a safety briefing, we’ll set off on our hike.

The trek will lead us through diverse farmlands where you’ll have the chance to observe Alpacas and Llamas grazing peacefully in their natural habitat. As we journey, get ready to be enchanted by the majestic snow-capped peaks of the Vilcanota Mountain range standing tall in the distance.

Distance: The hike spans about 8 kilometers.
Time: Set aside a relaxed stroll that’ll take you between 2 to 3 hours.
Altitude: You’ll kick off at a lower altitude, around 4650 meters above sea level, and gradually climb to a peak of about 5050 meters above sea level.
Difficulty: Anticipate a mix of moderate and challenging terrain throughout the journey.

Terms of Cancellation

  • If you decide to cancel your tour less than 5 days before it begins, unfortunately, we won’t be able to offer any refunds.
  • If you cancel between 5 to 7 days before your tour starts, we’ll refund 50% of your payment.
  • Now, if you cancel more than 7 days in advance, we’re happy to refund 90%, but we do need to keep a 10% fee to cover some administrative costs.
  • Changing the date of your tour is possible, but it does come with a fee of $20 per traveler, and it’s subject to availability.

Now, when it comes to unforeseen circumstances like delayed flights, train schedule changes, bad weather, or sudden strikes that impact the tour, unfortunately, we can’t issue refunds in those cases. We’re really sorry for any inconvenience they may cause.
