The Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain tour begins with leaving the city of Cusco early in the morning and after 2.5 hours on our way we enter the community of Chiliuani. Here we can appreciate the Chilihuani valley where we can see a snowfall in the distance, and a variety of potato crops in this community. Within 15 minutes of arriving we can see a part of the red valley and the fauna of this area as vicuñas and alpacas.
Upon reaching the Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain, we begin our ascent on a path along the mountain. Halfway up the ascent, the climb is a bit steeper, but there are horses available to help those in need. In total we will make the ascent in 2 hours. When we climb to the top we can see the Ausangate snowy and a circuit of reddish-colored mountains and numerous valleys connected in the mountains. Here it will be at a height of 5,100 meters with winds of up to 25km / h and temperatures of up to 4 Celsius.
Return by the way of ascent for 10 minutes, and then we make another ascent by another way towards the Red Valley for 20 minutes. There we stayed for 30 minutes to appreciate this wonder of nature.
Our bright and early transfer starts at your hotel (any hotel) in Cusco at approximately 4:00 am.
The bus takes the route south of Cusco for 1.5 hours passing through many colorful colonial towns before arriving in the district of Cusipata, where it is time to have breakfast and get energized for the hike ahead.
The trailhead is an hour away called Chilliwani 4,600m / 15,160ft. This is the warm up spot for our physical activity for the day – on your marks, get set, go!!!!! Up we go step by step taking deep breaths of this brave mountain.
Finally, with each step closer to the summit, the mountains become aesthetically perfect, the sunrise invokes a new day, the natural magic of this hidden treasure exposes its treasures in bloom, the ancient and traditional local people, llamas, alpacas, the wild vicuñas, let you into their secret world.
Condors circle in their beauty complementing other highland birds. 2 hours of our climb, our reward is waiting for attention, the top of VINICUNCA stands at 5100m – 16700ft. Breathtaking views of the Vilcanota mountain range greet you. Featuring the highest glacier in Cusco Ausangate 6 375m 20,900ft, you will have plenty of time to recover while enjoying your snack, taking pictures and breathing the fresh Andean air.
Our expert guide will share with you a detailed explanation before descending for 1.5 hours on the same trail to board the bus for a well-deserved lunch, returning to Cusco around 6:30 to 7 p.m. to be dropped off at Regosijo Plaza near the central plaza.
